My experience in the Dominican Republic wasn’t like anything I have ever experienced in my life. Even trying to come up with the right words to use to explain the experience.

The trip was hosted by the beautiful and talented artist/yogi Sally Mustang (her instagram @sallymustang is one of my absolute favorites). She hosts yoga and self-love retreats in various locations around the world and I am so happy I got to join her in the Dominican Republic. The trip was centered around self love and self care. The week was filled with daily yoga, sound healing, beach time, waterfall swimming, and AMAZING women from all over the world.

The first thing that needs to be mentioned is the incredible place that we stayed in. The Dominican Treehouse Village might be my new favorite vacation housing in the world. It was such a unique experience! The hotel is quite literally in the middle of the jungle. The huts are reached from hanging rope bridges. There are no walls. There is no AC. With that being said, I would not change a single thing. If you love the outdoors and once in a lifetime experiences, this is a MUST!

Sally Mustang is based in Australia and opens the trip to applicants from all over the world. I met incredible women from Canada, Argentina, Australia, Germany, and from every corner of the US! Getting to know these women was worth the price of admission alone. I have never been a woman who has a ton of female friends so I was originally very nervous to spend a week with a bunch of women strangers. When we all arrived, we realized that we were all there for the same reason. In a search to find love for ourselves and to experience growth while surrounded by an international support team. That is exactly what we found in each other. I wish I could thank every one of them for the impact that they had on my life.

Now for the stuff I actually went there for, the life changing stuff. again, it is hard to explain the experience. I have never been a person who believed that anything could “fix” me. I never believed in any spiritual healing. My mind has changed forever. I went to this retreat with the intention of fixing my relationship with my body. I have always had a very toxic relationship with my body in every aspect. I treat it poorly, I think ugly things about it, and I have never been content with the way that I look. This trip completely changed my perspective on my body. We did one-on-one emotional healing sessions and we did a group sound healing session. Both were extremely transformative for me. Somewhere along the trip I had the crazy (not really crazy) realized that if I want to love my body, I have to treat it the way it deserves but I will go into more detail about that in a later post.
